What Is PART?

PART - Home Page

Parents Against Road Tragedies [PART] has been established for a collection of important reasons, but one easy way to think of it is to look at the well-deserved success of Mothers Against Drunk Driving [MADD], which has made outstanding progress in combating the number of deaths that result from alcohol-related road crashes.

Using the USA as an example, alcohol was involved as a causative factor in 39 percent of all road deaths in 2006 – and drunk driving is MADD's main goal. Quite clearly, this leaves 61 percent of America's road deaths – over 25,000 wasted lives each year – resulting from crashes where no alcohol was involved. This is the area in which PART operates, but these efforts are for the benefit of all, not just America.

Clearly, no not-for-profit organization, such as PART, can fight such a huge and diverse problem single-handedly. Indeed, to be successful, road safety programs truly must be multi-disciplinary and often multi-agency. PART's chosen role in this matrix is therefore to dramatically increase understanding among the "end users" particularly young drivers and their parents – in order to significantly increase understanding of the scale and severity of the dangers that all road users face.

To a modest extent, the information in these pages overlaps that to be found on our other website – Drive and Stay Alive – but although both are not-for-profit, the DSA organization and website are purely informational whereas PART is a membership organization with specific programs for action.

If you wish to play your part in fighting the lethal carnage of road deaths globally or in any specific country, please join PART.
